4 Overall Product Tips for 1st-Time Clients Regardless of Adhesive Method

    1. Enjoy a one-on-one consultation with your new client.
    2. Make sure to strongly encourage the need for each new client to have at least two hair systems.
    3. Perform a patch test.
    4. Break up their first install appointment into three phases
      • The Prep
      • The Install
      • The Storage

1) The Consultation

The first impression is everything, and the first impression in hair replacement is the consultation. You get to find out exactly what your client wants, and they get a front row seat to your expertise. It’s in this meeting where you learn which method will be best and which specific products to use.

2) At Least Two Hair Systems

This tip is vital to the ongoing relationship between you and your client. With two, you can have a fresh system ready to go when they return for their first reinstall. This will make the process go so much faster and more comfortably for you and them. It also will help your client get the most wear possible out of the systems before they need to be replaced.

3) The Patch Test

The patch test helps you and your client know if a desired product reacts well with their skin. Performing a patch test also offers a clear example of how seriously you take your client’s comfort and individual needs.

Since track bonding with hard bonds doesn’t involve contact with the skin, we suggest doing a patch test if you’re using German Brown. This is our only tape that uses a natural rubber adhesive, and as such, it contains latex. To be on the safe side, perform a patch test to ensure your client’s skin handles the latex well.

4) The Three Vital Parts of the First Install Appointment

Breaking the entire process down to three sections simplifies the experience and helps calm your client. People like things in threes. If this is their first hair replacement install, they will likely have first-time jitters. Having you walk them through the experience using a simple three-step approach helps make the appointment less daunting.
Each step also allows you the chance to openly touch base with your client. You can walk them through why the preparation is so important to their desired results. The same goes for the install and for letting them know how you plan on storing their second system, sending them home feeling excited to come back.

The Walker Way for New Clients: Tape Edition

Preparing the Scalp and System for Install

Prepare the hair system before your client arrives.

  • Wear gloves to protect your hands and to avoid leaving skin oils or cells on the hair system or tape, which can weaken the ultimate bond performance.
  • Clean hair system with 99% Alcohol to ensure a clean surface for the best tape hold possible.
(If working with a mesh system, spray hair knots with Top-Loc Knot Sealer.)
  • Apply tape to the system perimeter as close to the hairline as possible to avoid lifting.

Prepare the client with the pre-taped hair system.

  • Again, wear gloves.
  • Wash your client’s scalp with Bond Breaker Shampoo to ready hair and scalp for the best hold to the tape.
  • Give your client’s skin a quick last clean with 99% Alcohol to ensure the best bond to the tape.
  • Apply any of our three scalp protectors for your client’s comfort and to boost the tape’s hold to your client.
  • Allow the scalp protector to dry before installing the system.

Installing the Prepared System

  • Remove the liners from the perimeter tape.
  • Apply Just-Rite Positioning Spray to the tape to give you the chance to get the bond right where you want it to be.
  • Press the hair system firmly in place.
  • After styling, work Leave-In Conditioner into the ends of the hair to give the hair system a fresh look and feel.

Storing Your Client’s Additional Hair System

  • Store the second hair system somewhere safe away from light and dust.
  • Show your client how it will be stored to boost excitement for their first reinstall.

The Walker Way for New Clients: Liquid Adhesive Edition

Preparing the Scalp and System for Install

  • Wear gloves to protect your hands and to avoid leaving skin oils or cells on the hair system or liquid adhesive.
  • Wash your client’s scalp with Bond Breaker Shampoo to optimize the scalp for the best hold to the liquid adhesive.
  • Clean hair system and your client’s scalp with 99% Alcohol to ensure clean surfaces for the bond.
  • (If working with a mesh system, spray in Top-Loc Knot Sealer.)
  • Apply a scalp protector to prevent irritation and to boost the adhesive’s performance.
  • Allow the scalp protector to dry before applying liquid adhesive.
  • Sponge brush a thin, even layer of adhesive to your client’s scalp, covering the bonding area.
  • Wait for adhesive to dry or blow dry to speed up the process
  • Sponge brush a second thin, even layer just like before.
  • Again, either wait for adhesive to dry or quicken the process with a blow dryer.

Installing the Hair System

  • Cover adhesive with Just-Rite Positioning Spray to ensure the perfect install.
  • Press the system firmly in place for ten seconds.
  • After styling, give your client a fresh look by using Leave-In Conditioner at the ends of the hair.

Storing Your Client’s Additional Hair System

  • Store the second hair system safely away from light and dust.
  • Show your client to bolster trust and excitement for their first reinstall.

The Walker Way for New Clients: Track Bonding with Hard Bonds Edition

Preparing the Scalp and System for Install

  • As with all these methods, wear gloves.
  • Shave a track into your client’s hair using trimmers set at ⅛” (often a #1 on electric trimmers).
  • Wash your client’s scalp with Bond Breaker Shampoo.
  • Apply 99% Alcohol on your client and their system’s base to ensure the cleanest surfaces possible before bonding.
  • (If it’s a mesh system, spray in Top-Loc Knot Sealer.)
  • Place P.A.T. Tape (or German Brown) along the system’s perimeter to match your client’s shaved track.

Installing the Hair System

  • Apply a small amount of hard bond adhesive to your client’s ⅛” hair stubble (a little bit is all it takes).
  • Since it dries so quickly, install as you go in small sections at a time.
  • Press the system firmly into place.
  • Add some Leave-In Conditioner to the ends of the hair to send your client home looking and feeling rejuvenated.

Storing Your Client’s Additional Hair System

Store the other hair system safely out of the light and away from dust.
Show your client how you plan to store it to gain their trust and earn their excitement for their first reinstall.
