Our hair system products for training new stylists!

Installing a hair system can be daunting and tedious if you’re new to the process. Making sure the scalp and the system are clean, that tape or adhesive in the correct place, while also being invisible. Ensuring the system is placed correctly on the scalp for an all-natural look can be challenging!

On top of all of those precautions, the products you use have their own unique instructions and steps to ensure that the precautions above go as well as possible. So, training a new stylist can be time-consuming and detailed work.

That’s why Walker Tape® is here to help! We’ve curated a list of our hair system products that are ideal for training new stylists, starting with:

Best Tape for New Stylists: This Side to Base

There are a lot of factors that make up a hair system tape, such as the carrier, residue amount, length of hold times, etc. Those factors can also be difficult for new stylists to handle and can spell certain doom if not used correctly.

That is why we recommend This Side to Base tape as a starting point for new stylists!

This Side to Base is built with three ideal factors that make it great for new stylists:

  • A Stiff Carrier: Stiff, inflexible carriers hold the adhesive firmly in place, making it easy for new stylists to get the correct placement on the client’s scalp.
  • Low Residue: This Side to Base is a daily wear tape (1-4 days) and is made for clients with fragile systems, which means it has less residue (“stickiness”). This makes it easier for new stylists to not get themselves (or their client’s system) caught in the adhesive.
  • Built for All Systems: Thin lace or thick polyurethane, This Side to Base works great to help apply any system base to the client’s scalp.

Of course, This Side to Base also has benefits for your clients as well! It’s dull, as to not shine through the system and provide an all-natural look. It is also hypoallergenic, making it a safe and comfortable choice for those with sensitive skin or who want a gentler tape.

Conveniently, This Side to Base pairs with our top stylist-friendly remover in Action Solvent!

Best Liquid Adhesive for New Stylists: Liqui-Tape & Safe Grip

Similar to their tape counterparts, liquid adhesives can be difficult to manage. The amount of residue, how much to put on, stringiness, etc.; along with the bonus of being able to get nearly everywhere that you wouldn’t want it.

That’s why we recommend Liqui-Tape & Safe Grip for new stylists to train with.

Liqui-Tape is our daily wear (1-7 days), silicone-based liquid adhesive. Silicone-based adhesives offer both amazing flexibility and a high resistance to hot and humid weather. This not only allows the trainee to comfortably place the adhesive on the scalp, but also allows both themselves and the client to withstand the heat from the kitchen!

Liqui-Tape is best paired with our classic Walker Solvent Remover.

Safe Grip is one of our two water-based liquid adhesives. Water bases are generally the safest options not only for clients, but for training new stylists as well.

Safe Grip is non-stringy, which allows for a more even flow of the adhesive without the risk of making a mess on the client’s scalp.  Safe Grip, like all of our liquid adhesives, turns clear when it dries, letting the trainee know when it’s time to place the system down.

Safe Grip, being a water-based adhesive, pairs best with our lone water-based remover in H2GO.

Best Remover for New Stylists: Action

Removers come in all shapes, sizes and forms. Base types vary, removal speeds range from slow to fast, and the amount of residue leftover is something to look out for. That’s why we developed a remover that combines the best of all these factors into one bottle.

As you’ll likely see in our wholesale catalog, Action solvent is our all-around best bet remover that is great for most scenarios, which includes training new stylists! There are a few things to know about Action and why it’ s great for training:

  • Made for Any Situation: Action is designed to remove nearly any adhesive (tape, liquid, daily wear, maximum wear), allowing your trainees to get experience in many different removal situations. Do note that Action is not suitable for water-based adhesives.
  • Oil-Based: Oil-based removers are the strongest and the fastest of the three solvent bases that we offer.
  • Easy To Use: Action is skin-safe and easy to cleanup, leaving behind a medium amount of residue. Just use soap and water.

Essentially, Action solvent is a Swiss army tool for new stylists during their trainings, helping to accomplish their objectives.

Best Prep Product for New Stylists: Bond Breaker Shampoo

Out of all the products mentioned, Bond Breaker Shampoo may be the most essential to the success of new stylists and the overall installation process.

Bond Breaker is the first line of offense for the bonding process, and can help new stylists learn the basics of preparation. It’s our all-in-one cleaning tool that washes out residual stickiness and cleans the scalp and system for ideal bonding conditions, because a bond cannot succeed without a clean surface!

Bond Breaker is not for everyday use. It is primarily recommended to use before install or preparing a system for storage.

Washing with Bond Breaker is a very easy process, simply:

  • Fill a bowl with warm water (as hot water can damage the fibers) and the shampoo.
  • Then, gently scrub away at the system until all leftover residue, dirt, product, and more is gone.

To clean the scalp:

  • Ideally, have a separate bowl of Bond Breaker and warm water.
  • Then, gently scrub the client’s scalp and bio-hair of anything that could potentially affect the hold.

After that, both the system and scalp will be ready to go for the next stage of prep!

Best System Care Product for New Stylists: Leave-In Conditioner

Outside of an all-natural look, a tidy and well-kept hair system is a priority for both stylists and system wearers. Leave-In Conditioner is a crucial step to achieving those goals and is one of our easiest care products to use and train with.

Leave-In Conditioner helps to defrizz, detangle, moisturize, and revitalize bio and natural hair systems. Along with Bond Breaker Shampoo, Leave-In Conditioner is a crucial product to help teach new stylists the full preparation and system care process. It’s also easy to learn! After washing, simply:

  • Spray Leave-In along the length of the hair, away from the base (Leave-In can potentially weaken bonds).
  • Let sit for the 30 seconds, then comb gently until it’s fully worked into the system.

Leave-In Conditioner is also color safe and skin safe, so no damage will occur if it accidently gets anywhere but the hair.

Best Tool for New Stylists: Sponge Brushes

Like any artist knows, the right brush can make or break the piece they are working on. That’s why we created our sponge brushes – to ensure easy success for trainee stylists when spreading product on the client’s scalp.

The sponge head allows for a safe, sanitary, and even application of adhesive, or other products, on the client without losing any brush hairs in the process. And the durable handle allows for more comfortable wrist strokes across the skin.

They’re also a single use option, so there is no worry of cross contamination!
