Ultra Hold Adhesive

Ultra Hold adhesive.

Walker Tape® has a wide variety of tapes, adhesives, and other hair system products to choose from. Over our near forty-year history, we’ve introduced new products and discontinued older, low-quality products. But there are a few adhesives that have managed to stay in our line-up no matter what.

Ultra Hold liquid adhesive just happens to be one of those.

What is Ultra Hold?

Ultra Hold liquid adhesive is our fan-favorite adhesive for the longest, strongest, and most consistent bond for hair systems. Made to be skin-safe and with an acrylic base, Ultra Hold can hold up to four-or-more weeks with proper preparation.

It is also one of our most reliable liquid adhesive bonds and holds.

What Makes Ultra Hold Great?

1. Cleans up Quickly.

Ultra Hold liquid adhesive is made with an acrylic base. Acrylic bases are built to be easier to remove and clean from the scalp compared to its other adhesive brethren, such as silicone.

Acrylics also leave behind less residue than other adhesive types, making that aspect of cleanup simpler as well!

2. Long-Lasting & Reliable Hold.

Thanks to both the acrylic base and its waterproof design, Ultra Hold liquid adhesive (like its tape counterpart!) can hold for up to four-or-more weeks with proper preparation and cleaning.

3. Gentle on Skin.

Designed with a non-toxic formula and dermatologically tested throughout its lifetime, Ultra Hold liquid adhesive is gentle on skin for a comfortable and safe hold.

How to Use Ultra Hold:

  1. Wash & prepare the scalp using Bond Breaker Shampoo and 99% Alcohol.
  2. Apply a scalp protector (i.e., Max Hold Sport) to the scalp to help create a clear bonding surface and boost the adhesive hold time.
  3. Use sponge brushes – or in the case of some of our bottles, the built-in brush – to apply a thin, even coat of Ultra Hold to scalp, then let dry or blow dry until tacky. Ultra Hold turns clear when tacky/dry.
  4. Repeat once more to add a second layer of adhesive to the scalp.
  5. Once the second layer has dried, press the hair system onto te scalp. Be sure to firmly hold for at least 10 seconds to activate the adhesive bond and get the best strength for your hold.

Storing Ultra Hold

As with all Walker Tape® liquid adhesives, keep Ultra Hold away from any heat, humidity, and/or light. Store your bottles in a well-ventilated, cool, dark, dry, room-temperature controlled environment (60-80°F). Close the lids tightly. With correct storage, Ultra Hold adhesive can last up to 6 months.

How do you melt the glue? It has become hard.

    • Emily Nikolaisen on June 22, 2020 at 3:59 pm

Our Ultra Hold Adhesive is an acrylic-based adhesive, so it does harden as it dries. In order to remove it, we would recommend trying one of our adhesive removers. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to our customer service department. Thank you!

I’m concerned about the presence of toluene. Could you give me any insight on that? How much toluene, and studies? Or any adhesives/tapes without that.

    • Emily Nikolaisen on July 20, 2020 at 9:05 am

      Dear Elijah,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding our products. I want to assure you that we take your concerns very seriously, and I wanted to share with you some information to assuage these concerns regarding our products and, more specifically, the ingredient toluene.

According to the CDC, toluene is one of the most abundantly produced chemicals in the United States and is extensively used in both the glue and pharmaceutical industries, among others. Though toluene can cause acute systemic toxicity if ingested and can be a mild irritant to mucus membranes when those membranes are exposed directly to toluene, studies of the chemical in works and animals exposed to it generally indicate the chemical is non-carcinogenic. Additionally, the International Agency for Research of Cancer has determined that toluene is not classifiable as to its carcinogenicity in humans.

That being said, there are some countries and states that do prohibit the sale of products containing toluene for varying reasons. With that in mind, I invite you to click here to review the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s public health statement regarding toluene.

I hope this clearly addressed your concerns. Please, if you have any additional concerns, questions, or thoughts on this topic, don’t hesitate to let us know. Thank you!

Is there a way to add anything to a bottle that has gotten too thick to use? It seems I always waste half a bottle because it becomes too thick and I have to throw it away. What can I add to it in order to break up this glue like substance it becomes?

    • Eliza Udy on November 13, 2023 at 2:07 pm

Hi there! We appreciate you reaching out about the thickness of your adhesives. To address this issue, we recommend adding a few drops of our Mity-Tite adhesive to help effectively thin down your adhesives, making them usable again.

It’s essential to store the adhesives properly in a cool, dry place, away from humidity and light exposure, and always seal the bottles tightly. Following these storage guidelines can help extend the life of our adhesives to up to 6 months.

For specific storage information for each product, please refer to the product listings on our website. If you continue to experience difficulties, our Customer Service team is ready to assist you. Feel free to reach out to them, and they can work with you to explore alternative solutions https://walkertapeco.com/contact/. We appreciate your feedback and hope these suggestions enhance your experience!

One bottle of ultra hold glue can be used for how many hair patch service.

    • Trey Pasch on September 10, 2024 at 11:24 am

Hello! There is not a set amount of hair system installations given per bottle of Ultra Hold adhesive, as many factors can affect how much adhesive is needed per installation, and the overall installation process in general. We hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please let us know.
