Back on September 30th, 2023, Walker Tape® participated in the Walk for Alopecia – Walk Where You Are event, hosted by the National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF). This national event helps raise funds to improve the lives of people living with alopecia areata.
Walker Tape® has always been dedicated to empowering confidence in those with hair loss, especially alopecia, through the adhesives we make for hair systems. So, the Walk for Alopecia presented another opportunity for us to help out in our community.
What is Alopecia Areata?
Alopecia areata is a chronic skin disease where the body’s immune system mistakes healthy hair follicles as dangerous and attacks them, causing hair loss. Anyone can be affected by it.
It can range from patchy spots to complete hair loss over the entire body. Alongside being unpredictable and lifelong, alopecia areata can cause low self-esteem, depression, and other serious emotional problems for those suffering.
The money raised by the Walk for Alopecia helps to benefit the great work the NAAF does – funding more alopecia research, providing support to the over 7 million Americans in their community, and educating & destigmatizing the public on the disease.
Walker Tape®’s Participation
Our walk had over 80 participants, from children on bikes and scooters to employees in their best walking shoes, all wearing our specially designed “Walk with Walker Tape®” t-shirts.
During the event, our wonderful co-founder emceed over the microphone while our Bluetooth speaker played some spectacular throwback music. Volunteers manned tables of snacks and water for the walkers to replenish, the sun shone bright, and we had an absolute blast of a time!
With over 850 laps walked around our building completed in just one hour, at $5 per lap per participant and 80 participants, we absolutely smashed the goal that we had set for the Walk.
In fact, the event was such a success that we plan to do it every year from now on. We hope to see you at one of them!
